Butterfield Station 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon California

Overall, it’s not very good Cab. Perhaps the third bottle you serve to your guests, if they aren’t looking.

It’s a clear, bright medium depth ruby-violet colored wine, with faint structure to it. There are some faint berry notes for your nose and palette (mostly of the black/raspberry variety.) It’s not a very astringent wine, nor particularly rife with tannins. It has an OK balance and a short finish. Overall, it’s a rather dull wine. After a couple glasses of this you’ll ask yourself: “Do I really want a third?” Not a wine for either sipping or dinner. Try elsewhere.

The best way to describe this Cabernet Sauvignon is ripe and generous. Cedar and sweet oak greet the nose while ripe black cherry and juicy plum tanalizes the mouth. The Butterfield Cabernet Sauvignon is not a big brooding wine but instead dances lithely in the mouth and finishes firm but supple, leaving you read to enjoy another glass. Matches well with gilled beef or pork chops as well as roasted chicken.

Boy, Do we differ on this

Boy, Do we differ on this one. A Gold Medal Winner in San Francisco!!

Well, a couple of things come to mind....

First, I'm not a particular lover of Cabs I'll admit and I acknowledge that in my notes about me. I've had some rather tasty Cabs, but I didn't think this was one of them.
Second, it could have been an "off" bottle, not "corked" but not in it's best shape either due to poor handling or storage. I could try a 2nd bottle to be sure...
Third, if you really love this wine, who cares what I think. You've found a wine you love at a great price. Enjoy!
