Leaping Horse 2008 Chardonnay California

Another in a series of “grocery store” wines, those 2 for $5. It’s better than the Merlot but not quite up to the Shiraz.

It’s a clear, bright, pale yellow colored wine with a structure that seems non-existent. Everything about this one seems to be faint, for the nose, (some tree fruit notes), for the taste buds (more of the same), a faint astringency (a decidedly “wet” taste), with so-so balance and a short finish. Oh, and perhaps the faint touch of oak too. Drinkable, as there aren’t any real off notes but largely forgettable. It comes across more as a Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigip than a chard. More oak time might have helped.
