Postales Del Fin Del Mundo 2008 Malbec Argentina

A surprisingly good Malbec if a trifle muted. The price however, is at my high end, unless you get a good deal from the wine merchant (like I did.)

The highs: a very deep violet color wine with more than a little structure to it, medium berry notes (think blackberry/raspberry here) for your nose and a bit less for your taste buds. There are some very rounded tannins, a plus, as most Malbecs seem to have a certain harshness at the end. There's also a OK balance and medium to long finish, and little pucker for your lips. Not a whole lot of lows save the the fact that the taste is perhaps a bit muted. Other Malbecs I've tasted were a bit on the aggressive side. Certainly a wine more for sipping than dinner, and for me that turned out to be a lot of sipping....

PS. Open time seems to help this wine. Consider 10-15 minutes before consumption....

The mysticism and romance expressed in the wines of Bodega del fin del Mundo (from the end of the Earth) come from the vast landscape of Patagonia... (remaining text redacted as it is too wordy and too ethereal to type in.) This wine is the perfect expression of it's origins, intense red color, full complex aromas, soft and rounded in the mouth, with persistent length.
