It's a Cab that doesn't quite taste like a Cab. Not a terrible thing, but you were warned! It's a clear, bright, deep violet to purple colored wine with very little structure to it. There are some faint berry notes for your nose but a better compliment of berry flavors for your palette. (Blackberry, cherry seem the most pronounced.) For a Cab, this wine is surprisingly sweeter than most, not cloyingly so, but still sweeter than you might expect for the varietal. It also lacks quite a bit of astringency you'd expect for a Cab too. However, to make up for that there are some very nicely rounded tannins that give this wine a smooth taste and balance, if a bit short on the finish. Better for sipping than dinner. A bit more astringency, and the grade might have come up and it would be good for dinner too. Red Diamond |
