Sheep's Back 2004 Old Vine Shiraz Australia

A subtle Shiraz, but a very tasty one. I'm hoping every bottle I bought from World Market will be as good this one.

A deep violet/purple colored wine with a very good structure to it. There are plenty of strong berry notes for your nose and even better ones (Cherry/Blackberry) for your taste buds. There is a fantastic astringency that gives you time to really savor the taste of this wine. And yet, unlike many a Shiraz I've tried, it is really quite a subtle wine. The dryness gives it a nice lingering finish, and it has good balance too. NOTE: It's an unfiltered wine, so plan accordingly. I originally bought this, on sale if you can believe it, for $10 a bottle at World Market.

Bottle Blurb:
After and exhaustive search through the vineyards of South Australia, Neil Empson finally found one small plot of 75 year old, low yielding vines in the Barossa Valley. The philosophy behind making this wine revolves around preserving both the essence of the Barossa Shiraz fruit as well as the unique terroir of this one vineyard. This vintage was matured for 22 months in French Oak, and bottled w/o filtration. It's name alludes to the phrase "Australia rides on the sheep's back for its prosperity."
