Stellar Oganics 2009 Merlot South Africa

For reasons uncertain, I liked this one better in the store than at home. A bad bottle? There was a decided spicy note I liked that didn’t come through with the 2nd bottle, hence, a slightly lower grade.

A clear, bright, deep violet colored wine with a light structure to it. When I tasted the wine in the store, there was a spicy note to the wine that was non-existent here. In it’s place was the usual berry notes (albeit faint) for your nose and a washed out berry note for your buds to. It did have some astringency to the wine, some well modulated tannins and some lingering acidity, but it left you with a short finish and a so-so balance. Not really a dinner or sipping wine I fear.
